Breast storage capacity is the amount of milk that your breasts can store between feedings. This is very different for every Mama & has nothing to do with breast size! A parent with a larger breast storage capacity can go longer between feeds without taking an impact on supply than a parent with a smaller storage capacity who needs to feed their baby more frequently. This is why feeding on demand is HUGE! Think of it like a cup! You can easily drink a large amount of water throughout the day using any size cup---- *if you use a smaller cup it needs to be refilled or "stimulated" more often! Women typically have a magic # of times they need to stimulate their breasts in a 24H period to maintain their supply. On average it is 8-12X per day, but someone who has a larger capacity is on the lower end than someone with a smaller capacity. Some women can maintain their supply pumping at 5X per day, while others have to ensure removing milk 12X per day. EXAMPLE: You are back to work and your magic # is 9! You pump 3X at work, and nurse your baby 6 times while together. If you pump less at work and don't add in an extra session at home, you may notice your supply dip. Do you know your magic number!? #worldbreastfeedingweek2022 #wbw2022 #breaststoragecapacity #breastmilk #supplyanddemand #ondemandfeeding #lactationtips #ibclc #lactationconsultant #makemoremilk #oversupply #lowsupplymom #newborn #breastfeedingeducation 08/18/2022
