This morning crews from Hanover Area Fire Rescue, Pleasant Hill Fire Company, and S.A.V.E.S gathered at Wirt Park Station for a small Memorial Day service before heading out for the parade.

Today we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We remember their sacrifice. We honor their legacy.

🚑💙 As EMS Week comes to a close, we want to send a huge thank‑you to the entire Hanover Area Fire & Rescue EMS team — and to the Hanover community we proudly serve.

This week reminded us of something we already knew:
Our EMS providers show up with heart, skill, and dedication every single day, not just during EMS Week. From the early‑morning calls to the late‑night emergencies, from the tough moments to the ones that make us smile — you give this community your best.

Your commitment keeps Hanover safe. Your compassion keeps our community strong. And your teamwork — on every scene, every shift, every call — is what makes Hanover Area Fire & Rescue truly exceptional.

And to the Hanover community: thank you for your support, your trust, your kindness, and the way you stand behind your first responders. We’re honored to serve you.

EMS Week may be ending, but our dedication to this community never does. 💙

EMS Week: Provider Point of View, AEMT.

As an AEMT here in Hanover you see a side of the town most people don’t. On the surface, it’s just another small town with people going to work, kids at games, families out doing normal things. But when the tones drop, you see what’s underneath all that.

You’re there when things aren’t okay.

Some calls are simple like Someone just needing help up after a fall . Other times, it’s a lot heavier, chest pain that turns serious, someone struggling to breathe, a family that’s scared and doesn’t know what to do. You don’t really get time to think about it. You just show up and start doing your job.

In the back of our ambulance is where people feel safe to open up . Sometimes they’re scared, sometimes they’re in pain, and sometimes they just don’t want to be alone. You hear about their lives, where they worked, their kids, things they’ve been through. It’s strange, the stuff people will tell you in that short ride to the hospital.

As an AEMT, you’re kind of in the middle of everything. You’re not always running the whole call, but you’re not just watching either. You’re starting IVs, helping manage airways, getting vitals, backing up your medic doing what needs to be done to keep things moving.

Some shifts are nonstop. You’re running from one call to the next, barely finishing charts or even dinner before you’re out the door again. Other times, it slows down just enough to sit for a minute and reset. But it never really stays that way for long.

There are calls that stick with you. The bad ones, obviously. The ones where things don’t go the way you want them to. But also the smaller ones, the ones where you know you helped, even if it wasn’t anything dramatic.
