I have officially retired from Good Seed Organics. Our good friends Tracy Polkownikow and Parker have taken the hand-off and are growing some great veggies for you! Contact them at 559-852-7901 for info on the winter veggie season.
New Year's Eve project! transplanting broccoli and cauliflower. We'll be eating these in late March through April! (Carrots are in the foreground.)
Lots of "wildlife" at the farm today: An orange cat (Mater) was drawn to some orange peppers...and Henny Penny was in a bit of a standoff with Farmer Marv--she tried to get her beak on some more wheat, and he said "no!"
These photos are a little bit grainy... Ho! (My wife doesn't think I'm as cute as I think I am.) These are our heirloom barley and wheat beds. Two are hulless Barleys for soup and cereals-- one called Hawkeye (must be from Iowa), and a black barley from Ethiopia called Jet. The hard red winter wheat has been in a Kansas family for over 140 years (it's the one with a slight green tint). We have some serious gluten issues in this country that have been traced to some modern breeding techniques. These heirlooms pre-date the problems. We're not talking about GMO's here-- it's a different thing. See Dr. Davis' book "Wheat Belly" for the whole story. We'll start harvesting the grain any day now...
