Kinky, coily, jumpy, springy
My Mamma says it sure is pretty
And things like “Wooh Chile all this hair!!”
Don’t forget three things
Tender, love, and care
My hair is so special
It grows up like a crown
I can wear it in a bun, beaded up, or straight down
My ancestors used braids as signs and maps
Now tell me who wouldn’t be proud of that?
Hair fluffy like cotton, or locked to show strength
Hair that shrinks just like magic
And can stretch to show length
Wavy, curly, beautiful tresses
From my scalp, is what I’m blessed with
Hair that makes people talk
Hair that makes people stop and stare
I like mine best when it’s free
And momma says you can look...
