United In Rescue
Did you know that only 1 in 5 dogs that are born in the United States will find a permanent home? Did you know that homeless animals outnumber people 5 to one? Did you know that over 1 million dogs are killed each year in shelters? Animal rescues work hard, day and night, to overcome those statistics, but most work on a shoestring budget that survives with the love of many BIG hearts. United In R

Wouldn't you love to have a calendar featuring one or more of your pups or cats in it? I know I am going to submit 1 with all 3 of mine because this may be the last year I will have 2 of them. What a memory keepsake to have.
We have had an awful lot of adoptions over the years and we would love to see some of them represent this fundraiser for Operation Save A Shelter Dog ❤

⚠️URGENT⚠️ Our shelter is out of kennel space for dogs. Our shelter was this full in early June, and no pets were euthanized based on space thanks to the support of our community and the hard work of our dedicated team. We can save lives together again, but we need your help NOW!
You can help by:
- Fostering a medium or large dog. Text or call 757-414-6478, or e-mail [email protected] to save a life by temporarily keeping a pet in your home. Fostering is FREE and all supplies are provided.
- Adopting. Visit our shelter or check out available animals online at https://portsmouthhumanesociety.org/adoptable-animals/
- Reuniting found pets with their people. Friendly, uninjured found pets can be reunited with their owners outside of the shelter. Call 757-397-6004 to find out more.
- Looking for your lost pet at the shelter. Visit between 8 am and 5 pm with photos of your pet or records to show ownership and your photo ID.
- Donating. Our shelter has about 100 more pets in care than this time last year, and the cost of additional food, medications, vet care, and staffing is weighing us down. Visit: https://portsmouthhumanesociety.org/ and click "donate."
- Sharing this post to spread the word!

Our Crisis Boarding program is currently in need of fosters! Our Crisis Boarding program temporarily boards and cares for pets while their families are experiencing crisis which means, these pets are not available for adoption. Pets in this program come from a wide array of situations. Their family may be fleeing domestic abuse, facing eviction, experiencing a medical emergency, or recovering from a house fire. These pets need comfort and care while their family gets back on their feet.
Crisis Boarding fostering typically will not last more than 30 days per pet and you receive all supplies you need to care for the pet. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys having the company of pets but is not able or ready to own one. By fostering for our Crisis Boarding program you are helping keep pets with their people and out of shelters. If you are interested in fostering for this program, please fill out a foster application on our website. https://bit.ly/3cpl6H5
