The Great Golden Digger Wasp is a member of the thread-waisted wasp family (Sphecidae)
Considered one of the hardest working pollinators in the garden that are harmless to humans, they don't defend their nest, nor are they aggressive. While the females do have stingers, unless stepped on or purposely put against the skin it is rare for them to sting humans.
