Story Time
So we have become sheep farmers. Accidentally, on purpose? 🤔😂. Morgan Busch showed sheep in her 4 H days and has talked often about wanting sheep for the farm. Which is blasphemy to me as a reformed goat farmer. But around Christmas I was on Craigslist ( have you noticed a theme in my life? I may need a CL intervention) Anyhow. I found a listing for a pair of ewe lambs for too good to be true cheap. Well. I'll bite and send them a message. Get a pick up address and all seems well. Looks like Morgan is getting sheep for Christmas. I arrive at my destination and there are no fields of sheep. Weird. But there is a large barn so I guess I will start there. I walk up to the barn doors and there is a pen of a LOT of sheep. But all different kinds of sheep. Weird. As I begin to look around I realize there is a building within the building. As my brain processes I begin to realize this is a processing facility. When the gentleman comes to meet me he said" I had a couple more born this morning are you interested? " Yes, yes I am because now that I know what they are being born into I can leave no sheep behind! I may have over committed a bit and came home with 7. But if you have noticed Morgan is invested in my madness and was totally stoked with the new additions. I will admit we lost a couple. When I got them home I realized they were all in rough shape. Which honestly makes sense. They were born to stressed ewes who had been through sale barns and in holding pens. I mentioned to Morgan that it sucked to know the babies were in that situation. She said yea I wish we could take them on. 😂😂😂 wrong thing to say my dear! I messaged the number from the Craigslist ad and asked if he had sheep regularly. (I mean it is the time of year for lambs to be born) He said yes. I told him I would take them. Message me when they are born and I will come pick them up. So since Christmas we have become a sheep rehabilitation for wayward lambs. It takes some time to clean them up. They have been exposed to a whole host of grossness without a developed immunity and we have lost a few. But give credit to Morgan for being in this with me! Watching her nurse sick lambs. Give them all the love they need and peace they deserve I can't help but think about how lucky I am to know such an incredible soul.
But, yea, thats how we have become sheep farmers. The oldest group is doing great and will be looking for their next homes soon if anyone is interested. Or, if you want to donate to our choas milk is onsale at TSC right now and we are going through a ton!! 🤣
