Today at No-Gi, we focused on one of the most important concepts in self-defense and real combat situations: framing.

To make the training more honest, we allowed light slaps during specific rounds so everyone could feel how quickly clean jiu-jitsu can fall apart if strikes are introduced and your structure isn’t sound.

I went over some fundamental concepts on how to build frames, manage distance, protect yourself, and create control under pressure when punches are a real factor.

Sport jiu-jitsu is valuable — but it’s important to test your technique in realistic scenarios and make sure it still works when chaos gets added.
