Skipper is at the vet right now. They rushed him straight to the back for immediate medical care.
I’ll be honest—I had a total breakdown in the car after learning more about his story and the condition he was found in. Neighbors said they heard him screaming for days. To make matters worse, string was tightly wrapped around his body, neck, and arm. It’s impossible to imagine he could have done that to himself; the way he was hanging, it’s just horrific.
And the cruelty didn't stop there. He was found with maggots under his arm pits. Someone had tried to "help" by spraying/drenching him down with a cold water hose, leaving him shivering and traumatized. When I got him to Dr. Lauren, she discovered the maggots were still there & deep under his arms. She immediately started flushing and treating the areas.
Skipper is incredibly weak, but he’s still showing us he wants to fight. He has a little appetite and has been drinking a lot of water.
He needs extensive supportive care before he’s even stable enough for surgery. I just got another update a moment ago. Medically he's in bad shape and would likely died if he went under anesthesia the way he is. He will be hospitalized for a few days before he can have surgery. I'm not surprised now knowing what his body has been through.
I know I haven’t shared many of our recent stories lately—they are just so heavy and painfully raw. I was up past midnight again last night trapping another kitten who was dumped right here where I live. Kitten season is so brutal, so cruel, and sometimes you just wonder how much a human heart can handle. I do plan on sharing the stories of these other babies, but right now, I just want us to focus all our love on seeing Skipper overcome these odds.
He can’t be more than 6 weeks old. How can people hear an innocent life screaming for help and simply walk away or ignore his cry for help? I struggle to understand it. Even if you aren't an "animal person," you don't just ignore suffering. 😭
Thank you to everyone who has already stepped up to help us with Skipper. We’re still a ways off from our goal, so if you can take a moment to share his story or contribute to his care, it would mean the world to us. Let’s show this little fighter that his life is precious and he has a lot of love and kindness behind him. The world has been so cruel to him in short life. He deserves to know the better side of humanity!! Thank you all, so much.
Edit - we need a new name, Skipper is a female!!

4 locations, 7 cats, and 1 exhausted trapper. I started Wednesday afternoon with a carload of empty traps and a mapped-out plan. Late Thursday evening, I finally finished up. It takes a lot of physical work, driving, and time—two trips to Westside, two trips to Huntsville, and two trips to every trapping site—but it’s such a great feeling when it’s all done!
There is a specific kind of peace that comes with feeding colonies across town knowing you’ll never stumble upon a surprise litter. You feed them with a clear conscience and a feeling of relief.
Now, even for these two newest colonies, I have peace in my heart knowing they can live in harmony. They’ll never have to struggle, fight, spread diseases, or give birth to more homeless cats. They can just simply enjoy their lives being cats. 🐾
We want to give this same quality of life to so many others, but donations are currently super low. We simply don't have the funding to fight this on our own. Please join us in our mission to make a better world for these cats who have already been failed once by humans.
Let's stop the suffering before it starts!!
