This is what arriving for a quiet weekend looks like at Stanton House Inn.

We’re a historic bed and breakfast on a tree‑lined street just off Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich, CT—close enough to NYC for a quick train ride, far enough that it doesn’t feel like the city at all.

If you’re planning a weekend near NYC, this is what it actually feels like.

When you grow up in a bed and breakfast, your parents' bedroom is the only room in the whole building that's actually private. Being called into that room meant one of two things. Something good was about to happen, or you were in trouble. Most of the time it was the second one.

That serious, grown-up back bedroom is now Room 16.

For a while it held its own. Then I noticed it was getting passed over more than it used to. A thoughtful guest eventually told me why. They hadn't slept well. The room was noisier in the morning than they expected. It wasn't delivering what the rest of the house promised.

I could have been defensive. Instead I thought, they're right, and this is the room to fix.

We started with the windows. Then a wool rug to absorb the sound and warm the floor. Then a rattan chair and a small antique writing desk I had honestly planned to skip, until I saw it and couldn't.

Room 16 isn't a showpiece. It's the small, serious room you trust for a good night's sleep. If that's the kind of room you always end up loving, this one's yours.
