For All Things Lovely

Slow and steady, meals around the table and pouring into the place we love most, and best of all — doing it all together. 🤍 Exactly what this year’s Spring Break called for and we ended the weekend equal parts exhausted and thankful. ☀️

I had a thought today, in the midst of the chaos — dressing them in warm clothes just to melt down in the cold. One day, I won’t need to play in the snow anymore. No one will be pulling at the pant leg of my pajamas, begging me to get dressed and go outside. They won’t reach out their hands because their feet are cold and they won’t whine for us at the bottom of the hill. They’ll run off with their friends, they’ll live down the street, or if I’m lucky, I’ll keep the old sleds for when they bring their kids home to relive it all again. One day, I’ll sleep in and I’ll wake up to the ground covered in snow, longing for the innocent joy of a snow day. But today — today, they reached for me at every turn. They woke me up too early and ran outside before they were fully dressed. They were cold and wet, yet my presence was enough to calm their discomfort; my arms stretched wide enough to pull them all in. We ended the day in front of the fire, where I was asked not to move. Above all, my mind was sharp enough to feel the moment, praying I never forget it. So even though the days will be long and school will be cancelled — the snow is a gift. A reason to slow down, grab ahold of comfort in whatever form that looks like, and FEEL how lucky I am to be the one they run to. 🤍

The kids have asked about “our cabin” at almost every day since we left it and I’ve thought about the sweet memories we made equally as often.
