Last night, June 14th, Flag Day, Howard Fire Rescue had the honor of assisting VFW Duck Creek Post 7534 & Auxiliary and American Legion Post 518 with retiring American flags. The flags are retired with respect and a formal ceremony. Little history on Flag day, as young lady asked a very good question on what we were doing with the flags. Flag Day (June 14th) commemorates the day in 1777 when the Continental Congress officially adopted the "Stars and Stripes" as the national flag of the United States.
