ATOU Fun Fact: The Famous Meghan & Nolan Greeting
Did you know that for years, ATOU Executive Director Meghan Adamski and Workshop Instructor Nolan had their very own signature greeting?
Before workshops, meetings, and special events, the two would often break into a choreographed handshake-meets-dance routine that was equal parts coordination, creativity, and pure fun.
What started as a playful greeting quickly became an ATOU tradition. Volunteers, staff, and students always looked forward to seeing what happened next as Meghan and Nolan flawlessly moved through their unique sequence of handshakes, spins, arm motions, and laughter.
While A Touch of Understanding is known for teaching empathy, inclusion, and respect, we're also proud of the friendships, joy, and sense of community that make our organization feel like family.
As we celebrate 30 years of changing lives, it's fun to remember that some of our greatest moments happen not just in the workshops—but in the connections we build with one another.
* Because understanding starts with connection.
* And sometimes connection starts with a really fun handshake.

Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom, Unity, and Possibility
This Independence Day, we join our nation in celebrating a remarkable milestone-250 years since the birth of the United States of America.
For two and a half centuries, our country has been shaped by the courage, perseverance, and dreams of people from all walks of life. While our journey has not always been perfect, our greatest strength has always been our ability to come together, learn from one another, and continue striving toward a more inclusive and compassionate future.
At A Touch of Understanding, we believe that understanding differences, respecting one another, and building meaningful connections are values that make our communities-and our nation-stronger.
As we celebrate America's 250th birthday, we're also proud to celebrate 30 years of helping build more inclusive communities through empathy, understanding, and respect. Thank you for being part of our journey.
❤️🤍💙 Wishing you a safe, joyful, and memorable Independence Day as we honor 250 years of American history and look ahead with hope to the future.
Happy Fourth of July from all of us at A Touch of Understanding!

The Real Measure of Impact? What Happens After the Workshop.
At A Touch of Understanding, one of the questions we ask teachers after our Disability Awareness Workshops is:
"Do you anticipate the ATOU presentation having a positive, long-term effect on your students?"
The responses remind us why this work matters.
One teacher shared:
"I anticipate that my students will feel more confident about what to do when they encounter another person with a disability. I also think that some of my students who have identified or unidentified disabilities feel more understood. My students are more likely to be aware and respect that every person is different and is dealing with different challenges, but we all are human beings and we have a lot in common."
Another teacher told us:
"Feedback from parents was very positive and many indicated that their child was very eager to tell them all about their experiences during the ATOU presentation, which speaks volumes."
These comments capture exactly what ATOU strives to accomplish every day—helping students move beyond uncertainty to understanding, beyond differences to connection, and beyond awareness to empathy.
As we celebrate 30 years of changing lives through empathy, inclusion, and respect, we are grateful for the educators, students, volunteers, and families who make this impact possible.
Because when students leave our workshops seeing what they have in common with others instead of what makes them different, the lessons last far longer than a single school day.
Building understanding today for a more inclusive tomorrow.

Reconnecting, Reflecting, and Celebrating Together
This week, ATOU volunteers and staff gathered at Old Town Pizza to enjoy great food, share stories from the school year, and reconnect before our summer break.
One of the best parts of A Touch of Understanding is the incredible community that has grown around our mission. From classroom presentations and activity instruction to sharing personal experiences and supporting one another, our volunteers and staff help create meaningful learning experiences for thousands of students each year.
The laughter, conversations, and friendships shared around the table this week were a wonderful reminder that the impact we make in schools begins with the relationships we build with one another.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. We look forward to seeing everyone again in August as we continue celebrating ATOU's 30th Anniversary and prepare for another year of inspiring empathy, understanding, and inclusion.
Together, we're changing lives—one classroom at a time.
