It's always a pleasure hosting the West Michigan Azure User Group! đź’»
This month, the Azure / .NET enthusiasts delved into the common pitfalls when developing Microsoft Azure Functions and shared practical best practices to build robust, efficient, and scalable serverless applications on Azure. Special thanks to Neil Shaffer from Gilson Graphics for his insightful presentation.
Looking forward to our next meetup! 🙏

TEAM SPOTLIGHT: Melissa Kuncaitis
Q: How long have you been with K Group, and what do you do here?
A: I’ve served with K Group for 26 years and counting. I am the Director of Finance.
Q: What do you like best about working for K Group Companies?
A: We are encouraged and led to continue to learn and grow.
Q: What was the first job you ever had?
A: I worked at Timmer Chevrolet in Grand Haven where I processed accounts payable and prepared title documents for vehicle sales. As you can guess, I have great attention to detail.
Q: Where did you grow up? Any interesting childhood stories?
A: I grew up in Grand Haven, out in the country on a dirt road. I have many fond memories of building forts in the woods across the street from our house.
Q: Tell us a bit about your family.
A: Our family has been growing! Our first granddaughter just turned two, and our daughter Reagan and her husband Doug were just recently blessed with another baby girl! Our son Brody had the privilege of marrying Maddie, in May. Chris and I just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary! Since being empty nesters, we’ve implemented Family Dinner, where we all get together once a month and enjoy being family. This is so important to us since most of us are on the K Group team.
Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
A: I love nature and the beauty of nature! I started as an outlet for my love of the variances in nature, along with God’s Word. More recently, I started drawing with chalk with a focus on outdoor things. This is a self-taught hobby.
Q: What are some things we might not know about you?
A: I used to be a beekeeper. I also auditioned and sang choreographed with Gospel Films for their annual fundraiser.

Q: How long have you been with K Group, and what do you do here?
A: I was hired in January of 1988, a week after Nick was born. I currently serve as the President, CEO and the Director of National Accounts.
Q: What do you like best about working for K Group Companies?
A: 1) One of the things I like best about working on this team is that I am blessed to work alongside two of my brothers- building our lives and our business on the strong foundation laid by our parents.
2) The K Group Companies’ growth environment. A place where we are motivated to seek out, grab hold of and align ourselves with, the right changes. We run next to each other and clear out obstacles, remove roadblocks, encourage, and celebrate wins with each other.
Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
A: When our kids were young, we had a small hobby farm. We raised 8 acres of Indian Corn, Sweet Corn and Strawberry Pop Corn. We also raised milk-goats, hogs, chickens, turkeys and an occasional sheep. I really enjoyed working as a family. These days, I enjoy helping my wife run Charis Bible College and I especially enjoy smoking meat for one occasion or another.
Q: Tell us a bit about your family.
A: My wife and I have been married for 38 years this past June. All 5 of our children are grown and have children of their own. We are so proud of each of them. We have 13 grandchildren!
Q: What's one way you get involved in your community?
A: I was a Boy Scouts of America Asst. Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster for over 15 years.
Q: What was the first job you ever had?
A: I worked at the Mobil Station in Jenison, MI. Back then gas was mostly full service, so I pumped gas, changed oil, repaired tires, etc. Early in my career there, I received a call one evening from the owner. He said that I had changed the oil in a vehicle and neglected to tighten the oil pan plug sufficiently and that after a short while of driving the vehicle away, the motor seized up having run completely out of oil. That was not a good day for anybody.
Q: Which sports team(s) do you root for and why?
A: Aside from my up and down allegiance to the Lions and Tigers, as a kid and a young man, I rooted for the Steelers (Franko Harris) and Pirates (Willie Stargel) as well as eventually becoming a cheese head and rooting for Green Bay. I haven’t watched a lot of sports in recent years, but I do try to go to NRA Thunder Nationals at Martin speedway each fall with my sons and whatever grandsons are old enough.
Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
A: I used to play the guitar, the banjo, trumpet, piano, and accordion.
Q: What are 2 things we might not know about you?
A: I am a volunteer Regional Leader over the state of Michigan for a global ministry that encourages and helps to empower Pastors and Ministers across the world. Leading international mission trips with my wife is something I really enjoy as well. Every year we take 30+ students overseas for between 7 and 10 days. I've been to Costa Rica, Honduras, and to an Indian reservation in Montana twice. We’re leading another trip to Mexico in the spring.
