If what you’re being told doesn’t sound right, it probably isn’t.
Some real estate agents are telling buyers that the real estate business has changed forever and now buyers are required by law to sign a buyer’s agency contract with you before they can show you a house. Does that make sense to you?

Think about it. Why would any sensible, informed buyer sign a contract committing them to work with and pay an agent simply because the agent opened the door?

Some agents are using the recent NAR settlement agreement to pressure buyers into signing buyer agency contracts. That’s not what the settlement agreement requires. Not even close.

The NAR settlement agreement was created to protect consumers, not real estate agents. Agents have always had the right to show -- or not show -- homes based on whether they have a working relationship with a prospective buyer, and they will continue to have the right to do so. Likewise, buyers will continue to have the right to negotiate commission, and work with an agent who they trust.

If you’d like to know more about the NAR Settlement and what it means to you, call me.

I'll help make sense of it for you. 616.648.0800.
