On this 4th Sunday of Advent, we find ourselves reflecting on this artwork and excerpt by Kelly Latimore. May it bring you hope as we enter the last days of Advent together.

“God has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;
God has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty....” ~The Magnificat.

The Magnificat was banned being sung or read in India under British rule. In the 1980’s, it was banned in Guatemala. In addition, after the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo—whose children all disappeared during the Dirty War (1976-1983)—placed the Magnificat’s words on posters throughout the capital plaza, the military junta of Argentina outlawed any public display of Mary’s song. Mary, may we be present and stand with the most vulnerable among us and the suffering of our neighbors...

The third Sunday of Advent: Joy.
Reposting Jan Richardson today as we reflect together:

FOR JOY
A Blessing
You can prepare,
but still
it will come to you
by surprise,
crossing through your doorway,
calling your name in greeting,
turning like a child
who quickens suddenly
within you.
It will astonish you
how wide your heart
will open
in welcome
for the joy
that finds you
so ready
and still so
unprepared
