Kansas City, Kansas Federal District Court of Kansas
Judge Daniel Crabtree
May 19, 2026

After reviewing over 1.9 million pages of documents in the Trial of International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Executives, Federal Court Judge Daniel Crabtree ordered that new submissions of documents be Accurate, Necessary and Relevant in relation to the submission of Evidence. Nearly two days of intense advocacy by Lawyers for the United States Government, Defense Lawyers for the Four Defendants Newton Jones, William Creeden, Kateryna Jones and Larry McManoman kept pace with extending the arguments surrounding the submission of evidence.

Defense Counsel Patrick McInerny and fellow co-counsel Dan Burton introduced 4,287 documents related to the defendants operation and management of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and the Bank of Labor, formerly Brotherhood State Bank. The documents submitted attempted to explain the excessive salaries and benefits totaling over $5.8 million in total expenditures made by Bank of Labor. IBB President Newton Jones charged the Bank $600,000 a year in salary and received excessive buyouts for Unused vacation and sick time. These amounts totaled more than $900,000 in direct compensation to Mr. Jones. Jones is charged with 59 counts of Theft of Federal Pension Funds, violations of ERISA and pension retirement funds. Jones faces over 259 years if convicted upon all Criminal Counts.

Secretary Treasure, William Creeden is similarly indicted and Charged with 59 Counts of various violations of Federal Law. Both Defendants were indicted for similar behavior and allegedly looted Both IBB and Bank of Labor. Creeden faces the same 259 years of incarceration if convicted. Creeden Lawyers have put on a vigorous and argumentative defense of the former Union Boss who was removed from office by the International Executive Council composed of Union Officials and vice presidents from throughout the United States.

During Testimony submitted today detailing millions of dollars of Union funds, both Creeden and Jones slumped forward in the thick leather chairs at their respective defense tables. The testimony revealing travel and entertainment dollars spent lavishly by both defendants detailed the time and places of expenses incurred by Jones and Creeden. Trips to Europe, Italy, Germany, Ukraine, France, Switzerland and other far away destinations totaled in the Millions of IBB members pension funds and Bank of Labor funds. Both entities spent hundreds of millions of dollars operating the Pension Funds.

Exotic Hunting Trips via private planes to South Dakota Pheasant Ranches were in excess of $400,000 as detailed by Bank President Bob McCall who repeatedly responded to prosecutors that the Trips were not necessary for Union Business. McCall testified for 8 hours concerning the excesses of the expenditures. McCall also detailed personal communications and request of defendants to receive back pay and Life Insurance coverage which were later cashable from the defendants. The cash payments to the defendants were not taxes according to McCall.

Under direct examination McCall stated that he had a lifelong goal to become a Banker. Defense Counsel asked McCall if he also had a stated goal to Stay out of Prison. An Apparent response to the fact the McCall had essentially turned against both Jones and Creeden. Several other Bank and IBB employees testified that both Jones and Creeden spent excessive amounts on exotic vacations and salaries for Family members who were not qualified to perform thier jobs. The compensation for various family members totaled into the millions of dollars for all family members employed at the direction of the defendants.

The United States Department of Labor and the Federal Bureau of Investigation spent hundreds of hours investigating and revealing the complex level of the Brotherhood Syndicate, that continually operated under the direction of the Defendants. Kateryna Jones, who married Newton Jones, 40 years older than the young Ukrainian Bride was provided $170,000 in back pay and benefits, at the direction of Newton Jones. During her employment Defendant Kateryna Jones earned over $160,000 annually for a period of 8 years. Defendant Kateryna Jones was employed as a special assistant to Newton Jones, her husband and President of the IBB. Larry McManamon, is accused of only 27 counts of wrong doing and essentially conspiring to Loot the Pension fund as International Executive Vice President. The RICO charges leveled against all defendants will increase the penalties of incarceration against all Defendants.

The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers is the primary Union for 41,400 existing members with over $8 billion in the Pension Trust for the Union. After nearly 20 years of management by the accused, the pension is in a negative growth mode, threatening the pension payments of retirees. The federal Trial will continue into next week as thousands of more receipts and travel expenses are laid out for the Jury to consider. The Defense will begin review of over 73 witnesses who will attempt to explain the Defendants side of the Story.

Many Union members have attended parts of the Trial to witness first hand the Accusations leveled against their Union Bosses. The Criminal Case is one of the most dramatic and explosive dramas ever played out in the Federal District Court of Kansas. The continued viability of the IBB established in 1888 is at Stake coming to the Conclusion of the Trial.
