Red Brick Farmstead

The Red Brick Farmstead is a 5 acre farm and family home in East Orchard Mesa, Colorado. The home was built by hand in 1948 by Arthur & Frances Gilbert, and the land has been worked by five generations of their family. Today their children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the Carpenters and the Ripples, are bringing the land back into food production.

This is how we candled our eggs this week! Play-dough and a cell phone flashlight 🏆 The large dark area with the thin line of transparency at the bottom, means there’s a chick inside! We use the long tongs to get the eggs out from under Mama (she’s fierce 😡)
