There are around 500,000 miles of private sewer lateral in this country, and a property owner is on the hook for every foot of it.
It's the line people forget about until the day it fails. For realtors and inspectors, it's also the hardest part of a property to speak to without real data. Locating the lateral, mapping it, and running a camera through it gives you something you can document before a deal closes.
That record is what keeps the lateral from becoming the surprise that stalls a closing.

Everyone thought they knew where the line was.
The paint marks were down.
The plan looked fine.
The crew had what they needed to get the project started.
Then the question came up:
“What about the sewer lateral line that isn’t marked?”
That’s usually where the problems begin.
Not because anyone skipped a step.
But because some underground lines are private, undocumented, old, abandoned, or just not where people expect them to be.
Sewer laterals. Irrigation. Storm drains. Old services. The stuff that does not always show up cleanly on a set of drawings.
That is the gap Sightline helps close.
Before the project starts, we locate, inspect, and document what’s underground so there is less guessing when it matters most.
811 is the right first step.
It just may not be the last one.
#811

811 is the right place to start before digging.
But in Colorado, 811 does not mark every underground line on a property.
Private utilities and property-specific lines may need to be located or inspected separately.
That can include irrigation, septic-related lines, sewer laterals, buried tanks, or private service lines.
Before work starts, make sure you know what was marked, what wasn’t, and what still needs to be verified.
You probably don’t think about irrigation lines until one gets hit.
Then the job gets real annoying, real fast.
Repairs. Delays. Confusion over who’s responsible for fixing it.
In Western Colorado, irrigation systems are easy to overlook because records are often non-existent, outdated, or buried in someone’s memory.
Depending on the size of the line and the access available, Sightline can help locate and inspect irrigation systems so crews have better information before work starts.
The line everyone forgets about can still slow the whole job down.
