What is a septic system? Essentially, broken down into its most basic form- a septic system is a water recycling system. Similar to recycling products, many people aren’t sure what “products” can go in a “ water recycler”? Remember, this is water you may drink again someday… no condoms, no cooking oils or oils of any kind , no food waste, no tampons, no wrappers or garbage of any kind, no paint, even our soaps can be troublesome, no chemicals, no cleaners. The only acceptable answers are the waste discharge from your body, toilet paper, and water. Remember, you or someone else may get the pleasure of consuming recycled water and you most likely already have, and don’t worry, as long as you heed the do’s and dont’s and proper installation and maintenance of your septic system it will make sure that the recycled water is the cleanest by filtering it through the earths’ soils for miles and miles.

P**p and toilet paper don’t just magically disentegrate or disappear in your septic tank! Get your tanks pumped before they fill up with the nasties and clog your drain field!

Not sure when the last time you had your septic tank pumped...? It’s most likely time then. The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality recommends pumping the solids from your septic every three years to prevent the broken down solids from entering your drainfield and plugging the soil pores so it will not leach into the soil adequately. There is no effective way to reverse the solids from “plugging” the soil pores other than to replace the drainfield which is why proper maintenance is important. You wouldn’t wait to change the oil in your vehicle 10,000 miles past the manufacturers recommendations. Don’t put off preventative maintenance on something as important as being able to shower and flush your toilets.
