The Gorham Fire Department pauses today to reflect upon the life and loss of Deputy Chief Michael Kucsma, who died after responding to a significant motor vehicle accident on June 16, 2014.

An outstanding mentor, friend, and true public servant, Mike was one of the first live-in students for the Gorham Fire Department and rose through the ranks to become a Deputy Chief. Mike worked full time as a Fire Captain in the City of Portland. Those lucky enough to have worked under his leadership miss him every day. Many who did not get the chance to meet him still benefit from training initiatives or operational changes that he inspired. His legacy continues on through the “Kucsma Training Days” symposium that brings in firefighters from all over New England for two days of classroom and hands on training with some of the best instructors in the business.

We are thinking of his wife Marcia and all of his family and friends on this 12th anniversary of his passing. We miss you, Chief.
