Honor is earned through service and carried forward through tradition.

Recently, members of the Goodyear Fire Honor Guard participated in the CAFMA Honor Guard Academy, where they strengthened the skills and traditions that prepare them to serve with professionalism, precision, and dignity during some of the fire service's most meaningful moments.

The academy concluded with a ceremony recognizing the 13th anniversary of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, honoring the 19 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Yarnell Hill Fire.

Honor Guard service is about more than ceremony. It represents a commitment to preserving the traditions of the fire service, honoring those who have served before us, supporting firefighters and their families, and representing our department with the highest level of respect.

Goodyear Fire Department was proudly represented by Terri McCoy, NFPA Rising Star for 2026, and Tanja Tanner, Arizona's NFPA Public Education Representative, as they joined fire and life safety professionals from across North America.

Congratulations to Terri on being selected for the NFPA Rising Star Program for 2026 — a well-deserved recognition of her dedication and contributions to the fire and life safety field. As part of this opportunity, she participated in the annual Public Education Network Meeting, gaining valuable insights, connecting with educators and industry leaders, and learning about the latest initiatives and resources from NFPA.

Excited to see emerging leaders and experienced advocates working together to strengthen public education and advance fire and life safety efforts in our communities.
