🌞 Hows that summer routine going? Are the kiddos sleeping until noon and bouncing off the walls at bedtime? 🌞
One of the most powerful tools for improving sleep is something many children aren't getting enough of: early morning sunlight and outdoor play.
Research continues to show that exposure to natural morning light helps regulate our body's circadian rhythm—the internal clock that tells us when to feel awake and when to feel sleepy. Add in hours of movement, climbing, building, running, creating, and exploring outdoors, and you've got a recipe for better regulation, improved mood, and often... a much easier bedtime.
At TimberNook, children spend their mornings immersed in child-led outdoor play, soaking up sunshine, fresh air, physical activity, and meaningful experiences that support healthy development from the inside out.
So if you're currently negotiating with a seemingly nocturnal creature who somehow has enough energy for three more snacks, two dance parties, and a dramatic reenactment of their entire day at 9:30 p.m., we may have a solution. 😅
Want a child who's ready for sleep, better regulated, and filled with stories of adventure?

Why? Social skills, emotional control, and physical stamina all need TIME. You can't rush development.

A great story is more than entertainment—it is an invitation.
An invitation to imagine, create, problem-solve, collaborate, and step into a world larger than ourselves.
When children hear The Three Billy Goats Gruff, they don't just listen to a story. They become bridge builders, adventurers, explorers, and inventors. A tale sparks an idea, and that idea grows into hours of meaningful play.
Add child-led outdoor play.
Mix in a few loose parts—ropes, tires, boards, sticks, buckets, and whatever treasures children discover along the way.
And bam! The magic of TimberNook.
This week, a simple story inspired children to build bridges, construct swings, create pulley systems, hunt for crawfish, and weave elaborate imaginative games with friends. Along the way they practiced teamwork, communication, resilience, creativity, and leadership—all while believing they were simply playing.
Stories give children a spark.
Nature gives them the space.
Play turns it into something extraordinary.
That's the magic we get to witness every day at TimberNook.

What an incredible launch week at TimberNook Baton Rouge!
This week we watched children build forts, design bridges, create swings, hunt frogs and crawfish, solve problems, take healthy risks, and form new friendships—all through the power of child-led outdoor play.
As a brand-new TimberNook site, we are so grateful to the families who trusted us with their children and joined us on this adventure. Your support has helped bring this vision to life.
If your child had a wonderful experience, we would love your help spreading the message.
Please consider sharing photos from your week at TimberNook and leaving a review on our page. Word of mouth is the most powerful way for other families to discover the benefits of unstructured outdoor play.
Every share, review, and recommendation helps us grow a community that believes children need time, freedom, and space to play, imagine, create, and connect with nature.
Thank you for helping us build something special here in Ascension Parish. We can't wait for the adventures ahead!

🌮🐉 TimberNook Summer Camp - Day 3: Dragons Love Tacos! 🐉🌮
Today was filled with the kind of deep, meaningful play that makes TimberNook so special. The atmosphere was peaceful and engaged as children settled into long stretches of uninterrupted play, creativity, and friendship.
🏠 Our fort continued to evolve, with campers adding a brand-new kitchen addition to their growing masterpiece. The fort has truly become a collaborative project, changing and improving each day as new ideas emerge.
🌉 Children spent time building bridges across our little ditch, testing designs and embracing plenty of messy play along the way. Muddy hands, problem-solving minds, and lots of laughter made for an unforgettable experience.
🐸 Frog hunting remained a favorite activity, and before long a pop-up frog shop appeared! Campers spent extended periods negotiating, trading, organizing, and creating elaborate stories around their amphibian discoveries—an excellent example of the deep imaginative play that develops when children are given time and freedom outdoors.
🚗 Large wooden spools transformed into cars as children set off on imaginative adventures, creating entire worlds from simple loose parts and their own creativity.
When asked about their favorite part of the day, campers shared:
💚 "Our new improved fort."
💚 "Talking with my friends."
💚 "Making dinner."
Days like today remind us that some of the richest learning happens when children have the time, space, and materials to follow their own ideas. We can't wait to see where tomorrow's adventures lead!
