🌟 Sunday Business Spotlight: 303 Paragliding 🌟
Golden is one of Colorado's best places to experience tandem paragliding, with two highly respected local operators helping visitors take flight above the Front Range.
Today, we're spotlighting 303 Paragliding and owner Whitney Martenson and tomorrow, we’ll spotlight Golden Paragliding and owner Josh Taylor. Two awesome Golden outfits, one phenomenal way to experience Golden!
Golden’s 303 Paragliding is one of the few woman-owned paragliding companies in the United States. Whitney Martenson moved to Colorado at 18 and discovered paragliding in her early 20s while living in Aspen. Ironically, she had always been afraid of heights—but once she experienced the calm, peaceful sensation of paragliding, she was hooked.
Over the next decade, Whitney balanced a career as a massage therapist with a passion for flying, logging thousands of flights and paragliding around the world. She eventually earned the rigorous certifications required to become a tandem pilot and launch her own company.
When two established Golden paragliding operators closed last Spring, Whitney saw an opportunity to bring her dream to life while filling a need in the community she now calls home.
What she loves most is showing people that anyone can fly. Recently, she took a woman in her 70s soaring above Golden. Other memorable trips include flying a cancer survivor who was celebrating being in remission. She also recalled a woman who was flying in honor of her mother who had always wanted to try paragliding but had passed away before doing so.
“For some, it’s an absolute dream come true or a bucket list adventure. And for others a way to overcome a fear,” she says. “But the experience isn't about adrenaline as much as people expect.
Floating above Golden is surprisingly peaceful and meditative—quiet enough for conversation, reflection, and taking in spectacular views of the foothills and Front Range.”
✨ Whether you're celebrating a milestone, crossing off a bucket-list adventure, or simply curious about seeing Golden from a new perspective, 303 Paragliding offers an unforgettable way to take flight.

Who loves outdoor movies? 🙋🙋♂️🙋♀️
The City of Golden is kicking off its beloved Movies and Music in the Park tomorrow night, Friday, June 13! Geared for you and your little ones, they'll be a Disney music cover band, followed by a showing of Zootopia 2.
For our kid-less crowd, come by Pride Music Bingo at one of our lovely local bars. Then Saturday, let's get patriotic with a rare presentation of a 38-star American Flag, found in Golden and preserved from the 1800s!

No animals or social media managers were harmed in the making of this post.
As we hinted at earlier this week, the Spring season comes with many wonderful things, and some of them are slightly...friendlier than others. The ampitheather on South Table Mountain was abandoned in large part because of the high concentration of rattlesnakes that slither around its flanks.
Many of our trails have high concentrations of rattlesnakes. Fortunately, rattlesnakes usually (not always!) let you know if you're getting too close.
When hiking in Golden during the Spring and Summer months, take these precautions to protect yourself and our nope rope friends:
🐍 Avoid stepping off trail into high grass, as snakes can blend in. Rattlesnakes can also lose their rattle, so counting on hearing them isn't always effective.
🐍 Always leash your dog in rattlesnake country. Further elaboration is hopefully not necessary.
🐍 Rattlesnakes are not very aggressive, and most people are bit when they startle a snake, try to move it, or step over it.
🐍 If you see a snake, do not attempt to move, harass, or kill it. We're in its home. Give it a wide berth or wait for it to move out of your way, or turn back.
🐍 If you are bitten, call for help and do your best to keep your heart rate down as a high heartrate spreads to venom quicker. Do not cut or attempt to 'suck' out the venom. Outdoor products that claim to assist with this should be avoided.
See more information on hiking in rattlesnake country via Jefferson County Parks and Open Spaces (JCPOS).
