Regardless of the size of your company, social media governance is something you should care about (a lot). Without proper governance, your company is assuming all kinds of unnecessary risk: legal, compliance, regulatory and reputation. Most of the companies making headlines because their Twitter account got hacked or their social media manager accidentally posted something awful that was intended

New on the blog from CEO Sue Serna: I must admit, last week I had a pretty good chuckle over the video of Mark Zuckerberg absolutely failing during a live demo of Meta’s new $800 AI-enabled glasses. During the live demo, Zuckerberg tried and failed repeatedly to pick up a WhatsApp call on the glasses. It reminded me distinctly of Elon Musk’s failed “bulletproof” glass demo, in which the supposed bulletproof glass shattered on impact instead of remaining intact as it was supposed to.
In both cases, the CEO was left to flounder in front of a live audience and a huge streaming audience, making bad quips to try to cover their embarrassment.
These two incidents are my two favorite examples of a corporate live event going disastrously wrong. But there are plenty of examples out there. For some reason, executives seem to think that doing a totally live demo is a great idea. They are super keen to host a livestream event with millions of people tuning in to watch them. Maybe it’s an ego thing. But it seems like many executives don’t consider Murphy’s Law.

New on the blog from CEO Sue Serna: The National Cybersecurity Alliance is encouraging people to set a safe word with their families, coworkers, caretakers of elderly relatives, etc. I love this idea because it is so simple but brilliant. It doesn’t rely on fancy technology or require you to download a special app. And it’s super secure because the information just lives inside your brain. Remember, the scammers always play on urgency – your loved one needs help immediately, your IT support desk needs information urgently. A safe word puts a simple, quick and effective check in place before you take the action they are requesting.

Also, bonus! There's a super cool exercise featuring three audio phone calls - one is a human and two are not. Can you tell the difference? I encourage you to try! It's harder than you think!

Safe words: They’re not just for the bedroom anymore — Serna Social In a campaign launched earlier this year, the National Cybersecurity Alliance launched an effort to get individuals to create safe words for their families, close friends, coworkers or caregivers for elderly family members. Essentially, you establish a safe word with this person or group of people a

New on the blog from CEO Sue Serna: Yesterday, the headline of the Social Media Today, LLC email newsletter stopped me in my tracks: “Meta enhances protection for brand IP.” Exsqueeze me?
Turns out, Meta very very quietly launched a thing called Brand Rights Protection last year. 🤯 The basic idea is that Meta wants to make it easier for large brands and companies to work with Meta in taking down rogue pages, imposter accounts and other things that would infringe on a brand’s intellectual property. Here's my take on the tool, its potential and the numerous issues I see with its current state. Still, credit where credit is due. It's nice to see Meta finally taking a step toward helping companies protect their brands. Hopefully much more will follow.
