A federal judge in the Eastern District of Louisiana has denied Sanofi's motion for summary judgment, allowing lawsuits alleging Taxotere caused permanent eye injuries to continue. The court found that whether Sanofi's warnings adequately informed physicians about the severity and permanence of the alleged eye injuries presents factual issues that should be decided by a jury, not resolved before trial.
The multidistrict litigation (MDL) involves claims that Taxotere (docetaxel) can cause damage to the tear drainage system, resulting in chronic excessive tearing, scarring, and permanent narrowing of the tear ducts. Plaintiffs allege Sanofi failed to adequately warn healthcare providers that these injuries could become irreversible without early recognition and treatment. Sanofi maintains that its labeling complied with federal requirements and has denied the allegations.
The ruling represents an important procedural victory for plaintiffs because it allows the litigation to proceed toward future trials. While the court rejected Sanofi's request for summary judgment, the allegations remain unproven, and the company continues to contest liability. The outcome of the MDL could influence future failure-to-warn litigation involving pharmaceutical products.

YouTube has reached a settlement in a lawsuit brought by a Florida teenager who alleged the platform, along with Meta and Snap, contributed to his mental health struggles through addictive design features such as infinite scroll and autoplay.
The settlement terms are still being finalized, according to the plaintiff’s attorneys. The agreement removes YouTube from the case ahead of the next trial in the closely watched social media addiction litigation, which is set to begin July 27 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The case is part of broader consolidated litigation involving thousands of plaintiffs who claim social media platforms were intentionally designed to keep young users engaged in ways that harmed their mental health.
The first bellwether trial in the litigation ended in March with a $6 million verdict against Meta and YouTube.
