SRI is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote sustainability at the most local levels through science and education. We are currently designing a diversified curriculum for elementary school children that integrates mindfulness training, movement, and other techniques to facilitate social competence and decrease stress levels. We want to help children learn to make calmer choices and
better decisions. Addressing the needs of our children is the single most effective way to ensure a brighter future for all of us. High stress levels in children are an underlying factor in weak academic performance, behavioral problems, and poor physical health. By giving our children the tools to deal with stress, we not only help them to perform better in academic and social settings, but we help to increase their self-confidence and positive outlook on life. Working together with trained educators, SRI is developing a program called, Insight: Critical Thinking for Kids. Our program is designed to guide and support the next generation toward sustainable means of communication, social competence, spatial awareness, and self-confidence. With the support of local schools we intent to implement this program as soon as possible, giving our children a chance to navigate their education experience with less stress and more personal dignity, while also generating the much needed data necessary to fund our program on a larger scale. This project is for the children who will be in charge one day.
