Flying Changes Equine Rescue was born in March of 2015 when a local equine rescue announced abruptly that it was closing its doors. Three women, current and former rescue volunteers Sarah Susa, Annamaria Carrington, and Angie Dannelley, stepped forward to take responsibility for the horses left behind. After some major soul-searching, these women decided that rather than simply finding homes for t

COURTESY POST UPDATE: The interest in Chloe, Hope, and Otto has been overwhelming. We believe we’ve found homes for each of them. Please continue to watch our page though - we have several horses that need homes we’ll be posting in the upcoming weeks.

We are assisting an elderly horse owner in the Sharon, PA area who is no longer physically able to care for all the animals on her farm. Her property was once a boarding facility, and over the years several owners stopped paying board altogether and abandoned their horses. She has asked Flying Changes for help finding new homes as soon as possible for three Thoroughbreds:

Chloe is 13–14-year-old, 16.2 hh chestnut Thoroughbred mare with a blaze and four white stockings. While much of her history is unknown, Chloe was lightly ridden until her owner stopped paying board. Chloe is a flashy girl with all that chrome, and we could easily see her doing well in the show ring (flatwork only). Although she IS a mare, she’s been easy to handle and work around.

Hope is a 7-year-old, 16.1 hh dark bay Thoroughbred mare that came from a severe abuse and abandonment situation in West Virginia several years ago. She is a quiet, sensitive soul who will shut down when stressed. She truly needs her own person — someone patient and understanding who will take the time to earn her trust and show her consistent love. Hope is sound and broke to ride. In the right hands, this sweet girl has the potential to blossom.

Otto is a 15–17-year-old, 15.3 hh dark bay Thoroughbred gelding that was signed over to the farm owner last year. He's an easy going, pleasant guy who could use some extra groceries. He loves attention and is always first at the gate whinnying when he sees someone he knows. Otto is sound, broke to ride, and uncomplicated — the type of horse who would fit nicely into many different family or pleasure riding situations. He has been straightforward to handle and a joy to have around.

🐴 All three horses are currently barefoot and scheduled to have their hooves trimmed this Friday. They're all easy to handle and work around. They were vaccinated this fall but due to financial constraints haven’t gotten their spring shots.
📍 Location: Sharon, PA area
💙 There is no adoption fee for Flying Changes Courtesy Post horses — they are free to the best suited home.
📩 If you’re interested in giving Chloe, Hope, or Otto (or all three!) a new home along with the love and attention they deserve, PM us. Please share information about yourself, your farm or boarding facility, and the farrier and veterinary service you use or plan to use.

Thank you for helping us help these horses find the soft landings they deserve. As always, PLEASE SHARE 💙🐎

Ella‘s recent adoption was a special one, for a number of reasons… and I’m grateful that The Chronicle Of The Horse thought so too, and wanted to share this story!

"In elementary school, when I started taking weekly lessons, it became quickly apparent that I had the loose-screw common to all equestrians," writes blogger Sarah Susa. "I’d have rather spent time in that dark, musty, spiderwebbed barn than absolutely anywhere else in the world."

BLANKET UPDATE:

Here's the link to our current inventory of blankets: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_1ShgbyD93zx777JQvVq9ReGyNy3DDQHCRrnwevPXdE/edit?usp=sharing

If you're interested in anything you see here, or you want to come browse our other miscellaneous items (saddle pads, horse boots, breeches, buckets, etc.) call or text Sarah at 412-302-5181 to arrange a time for a visit!

Hi all! Sarah here - owner of Black Dog Stables where all our blanket inventory is (that lots of you are interested in).

My husband busted his knee on Monday and needs surgery, so it's going to take our team some time to answer your individual messages and comments about specific blankets.

We're hoping to inventory what we have tonight and at least post that information for you.

If anyone is close to Gibsonia and wants to come browse what we have, you're welcome to stop by the farm tonight between 4:30-8.

PLEASE TEXT SARAH IF YOU PLAN TO STOP BY: 412-302-5181.

I'll also be around off and on Friday through Sunday - again, PLEASE TEXT TO SET UP A VISIT... I can accommodate visits for sure, but have to navigate a lesson program, 4-year-old human kid, and broken spouse!!

ALSO: WE HAVE THREE TUBS OF MISCELLANEOUS HORSE STUFF FOR SALE: hay bags, various boots, two dozen breeches (including Tailored Sportsmans!), a few hunt coats, buckets, and LOTS of other random stuff that you can go through!

There's also a PILE of recently-donated blankets that we haven't had a chance to fold and label yet that you're welcome to go through and make an offer on if you want to stop in person!!

Otherwise, please give us a second to post a list here later today rather than answer individual messages.

Thanks for understanding and being patient!!
-Sarah, Annamaria, and crew :)
