Cattails & Cocktails
Lee Brockington is known throughout the region for her deep knowledge of Georgetown County Plantations, its famous rice culture, and the transition from active rice production to hunting and conservation properties. The Georgetown County Museum is proud to offer more artwork from artist Andy Riley. In addition to his reprint of his 1975 Georgetown County, A Historical view of The American Revolution map and his Francis Marion colonial brick series, Andy has his new painting called "First Flight Morning Light Sandelings" available and on display in our Rice Trunk shop.

In October 1954 hurricane Hazel hit Pawleys Island and local artist Andy Riley reflects back to when he was 6 years old watching engineers put in groins to try to contain the impact of future hurricanes and erosion. He was intrigued and attracted to these new structures and the waves and wildlife that gathered around them , often fishing atop the groins. Today there are very few of these structures left on the island. Andy does a wonderful job capturing his memory of this special time and era on Pawleys Island.
