Earning the title of valedictorian represents far more than academic excellence — it reflects years of discipline, perseverance, leadership, and commitment to success. For John Brody Bowlin, that commitment has defined his high school career at Scott County High School.
Bowlin has earned the distinction of valedictorian for the Scott County High School Class of 2026 while balancing rigorous academics, athletics, fine arts, and service. A Cardinal Scholar, Brody completed seven AP courses and ten dual credit courses during high school, accumulating approximately 48 college credit hours and allowing him to begin college as a sophomore-level student.
In addition to earning a 34 on the ACT, Brody has been actively involved in football, track, choir, Beta Club, peer tutoring, and numerous service projects throughout his time at SCHS. His accomplishments in music include being selected for All-State Choir, highlighting the well-rounded nature of his high school experience.
“What motivated me throughout high school changed over time,” Brody reflected. “At first it was my parents, because they always wanted me to keep straight As. As I got older it became more my desire than theirs to keep my grades up. They would not have cared if I got a B, but I would have.”
While both of his parents teach at SCHS, Brody credits his success not simply to his environment, but to the internal drive and expectations he set for himself throughout high school.
Known for his determination both in the classroom and on the field, Brody competed as a long snapper for the Cardinals, continuing a proud family tradition. Next fall, he will attend Eastern Kentucky University where he plans to major in mathematics and pursue a career as a research scientist while also continuing his football career. Brody will become a third-generation EKU football player, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Wayne Bowlin, and his father, Michael Bowlin.
Among the courses that challenged him most, Brody pointed to AP Chemistry and Discrete Mathematics as classes that pushed him academically.
When asked what advice he would give students trying to balance academics and athletics, Brody offered simple but encouraging words. “It’s not as hard as you think. Athletics definitely take up a lot of your time, but it’s possible as long as you push yourself.”
Brody has also been recognized with the prestigious EKU Regent’s Award scholarship. The son of Michael and Tasha Bowlin, and brother to twin sister Ella, he has been supported throughout his academic journey by family, teachers, coaches, and classmates.
Through years of hard work, leadership, and dedication, John Brody Bowlin has earned the respect and admiration of the Scott County High School community. Congratulations to Brody Bowlin, valedictorian of the Scott County High School Class of 2026.
