๐ Flood Safety Reminder for Ohio Residents ๐
Living near rivers and low-lying areas means flooding can happen quickly, especially after heavy rain. Staying alert can save lives.
๐ If Youโre Driving:
Turn Around, Donโt Drown. Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you off your feet, and 12 inches can sweep away a car.
Never drive through flooded roads. You canโt see washed-out pavement, hidden debris, or strong currents.
Stay off bridges if water is touching the road or flowing rapidly underneath.
Watch for downed power lines always assume they are live.
Slow down in heavy rain to avoid hydroplaning.
๐ Using Ride Shares, Buses, or Other Transportation Services:
Donโt pressure drivers to cross flooded streets or detour through water.
Expect delays or cancellations in flood-prone areas, safety comes first.
Choose pick-up and drop-off points on higher ground when possible.
If flooding worsens, end the trip early and seek shelter.
๐ Extra Tips for River Communities:
Know your evacuation routes and avoid areas that flood frequently.
Keep an emergency kit with essentials in your car.
Monitor local alerts and weather updates, especially during storms.
Floodwaters rise fast; your safety is worth the wait.
