This Orion 950 pinless moisture meter is a little too easy to use. Is that even a thing? No. I really like when tools just work. This one is pinless, meaning you don’t have to drive it into the wood, and this particular one can read up to 3/4” deep. I’ve got a link in my bio to so go check out what they have to offer. One of my gates was struggling. One of the posts had kind of sagged over the years and it was causing the gate not to close properly. I needed to get the old, broken concrete out of there and pour some new...after making the post plumb again, of course.
I grabbed some 3” PowerPro outdoor screws and used those for multiple things. First, I put one into the side of the post so I could secure a post level to it. Then, once I got it back into plumb, I hammered a stake into the ground and used the screws to secure a 2x4 between the stake and the now corrected post. I didn’t need that puppy moving while I mixed and poured concrete.
Then, once it all set up for a few days, I removed the screws and everything was right with the world. Well, ok...the gate was straight and operational again.
