It’s something we don’t realize when we’re young: as we age, our spirit and mind stay young. Inside, we still feel the same, with the same hopes, dreams, and desires. But now, we see the world through the eyes of an aging shell. Our insides remain vibrant and full of life—it’s only the outside that grows old and frail.
And with age comes a painful truth: we begin to feel invisible, like we matter less. We realize that more of our life lies behind us than ahead.
I once read something that has stayed with me. Someone asked an elderly man what it was like to know that most of his life was behind him. The man replied that he had always been the same age inside. The voice in his head had never grown old; he was still the same boy, still his mother’s son, still waiting to feel like an old man. He had watched his body age and his strength fade, yet his inner self remained unchanged—timeless and alive.
Our spirits are eternal. Our souls never age. So, next time you see an elderly person, remember they’re still the same child they once were. And just like every child, they still need love, attention, and purpose.
