🚨 Heat Advisory: Dangerous heat is expected across our area today, with heat index values potentially reaching 108°F.
✅ Hydrate frequently
✅ Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning
✅ Limit strenuous outdoor activity
✅ Check on older adults, neighbors, and others who may be vulnerable to the heat
⛈️ While scattered storms later today may provide some temporary relief from the heat, remember that summertime pop-up thunderstorms can develop quickly and produce dangerous lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall. If thunder roars, go indoors.
Stay weather aware, Georgetown!
Hey Georgetown! With summer heat building and more people heading to the coast, here’s what to know today! ☀️🌊🌀
Our partners at NWS Wilmington have issued a Heat Advisory for Inland Georgetown on Friday (6/12/2026) from 11 AM–8 PM. It could feel like 106, so remember to drink plenty of water, take breaks in the shade, and avoid heavy outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day. Keep an eye on friends, pets, and neighbors—heat affects everyone!
For those heading to the beach, Coastal Georgetown is under a Beach Hazards Statement today (6/11/2026). Strong longshore currents and a moderate rip current risk can make swimming dangerous. Please use caution if you choose to get in the water and stay alert to changing conditions.
And with hurricane season underway, these early-season heat and coastal hazards are a good reminder to check your emergency kit, update your family plans, and make sure you’re signed up for alerts.
Heat, surf, or storms — stay weather aware and stay safe, Georgetown County!
