Journey to Present is Hiring!

Hi, I'm Dr. Melissa Mahon, the founder of the private practice, Journey to Present, currently located in downtown Geneva. Our work is rooted in supporting the healing of the whole person, offering a blend of traditional therapies alongside alternative and holistic modalities, in addition to yoga and wellness workshops.

As I transition my practice into a new space in St. Charles, we’re also expanding. I’m currently looking to hire 1-2 licensed therapists (W2 positions) who feel aligned with this integrative work.

If this resonates with you (or someone you know), I’d love to connect. Feel free to send me a PM or email me at [email protected]

Some people can love you and still not be safe for your nervous system...

Some connections feel familiar
but keep pulling you back into survival mode,
hyper vigilance, people-pleasing, over giving,
instead of regulation, safety, and expansion.

→ Familiar does not mean aligned.
→ Chemistry does not mean capacity.
→ History does not equal healthy.

And here’s the reframe most people miss:
You don’t need to villainize anyone to step back.
You can love someone and love yourself more.

Boundaries aren’t walls.
They honor you and your nervous system.

If this is something you’re learning to unfold, our therapists at Journey to Present are ready to walk alongside you. journeytopresent.com

We live in a world that keeps your body in fight or flight... notifications, caffeine, stress, trauma, pressure to perform.

So if you feel tired, reactive, overwhelmed, or disconnected... it’s not a personal failure. It’s your nervous system asking for rest.

Most people are unknowingly using things to cope with survival mode, scrolling, overworking, numbing, over-consuming, rather than actually regulating it.

True healing doesn’t start in the mind.
It starts in the body.

When you shift out of fight or flight and into rest and regulation, your anxiety softens, your intuition gets louder, your energy changes, and life starts to respond differently.

Nervous system regulation isn’t a trend.
It’s the foundation for healing, manifestation, emotional safety, and sustainable success.

Your nervous system doesn’t relax through force.
It relaxes through safety.

And safety is built through gentle, sustainable habits, not pressure, perfection, or “fixing yourself.”

Gentle practices can look like:
slowing your breath for 30 seconds,
feeling your feet on the floor before responding,
choosing rest before pushing through.

Sometimes regulation looks like pausing your breath,
sometimes it’s placing a hand on your body,
sometimes it’s letting today be “enough.”

When your nervous system feels supported, everything shifts:
→clearer thinking
→deeper presence
→more consistent energy

Regulation isn’t about doing more; it’s about meeting yourself where you are and choosing practices your body can actually sustain.
