“I am devoting the entirety of my professional life to adding more projects currently in the rural area,”
Christopher Dorworth, August 2021
When someone who is used to being a powerful bully personally commits themselves to attacking your community, you should remember their threat and take it seriously. Developer Chris Dorworth has told us that our community is his personal target and, to no one’s surprise, he’s back.
From 2018 through 2022, Chris Dorworth through his company River Cross Land Company fought to pierce the Rural Boundary for the proposed mega development River Cross. Seminole County did the right thing by denying Dorworth’s River Cross applications and defending itself to victories in both federal and state court lawsuits that Dorworth’s River Cross filed. The federal court was so shocked by Dorworth’s conduct that it wrote the following scathing account:
Mr. Dorworth’s unrelenting attempts to invalidate the Rural Boundary—using a last-minute, unfounded claim of violation of the federal FHA—when he knew that he had no evidence of “robust causation” by the County zoning board he previously chaired was completely unreasonable, groundless, and bordering on bad faith.
It ordered that Dorworth’s River Cross reimburse Seminole County $432,198 for that lawsuit he lost.
In 2021 Chris Dorworth also fought to pierce our Rural Boundary for a development at the property known as Pappy’s Patch. We wrote about that in these posts:

He withdrew that application shortly thereafter ( https://www.facebook.com/share/p/14kz6RRJkXw/ ). However, now he has filed a new application with the County to take Pappy’s Patch out of the Rural Boundary and pave it over. Developers, particularly this one, will never stop in their effort to make tens of millions at the expense of our rural lands. We all must continue to insist that our elected officials honor their obligations to the community rather than being seduced by developers who donate to their campaigns.
As we learn more, we will continue to update the community about this pest and his perpetual efforts to pave over our Rural Boundary.

Great job by Nassau County!
We’re not aware of any present proposals in Seminole County, but the developer behind the proposed Rivercross monstrosity was recently on the news talking about the wonderful benefits of inviting data centers into your backyard.
Given how catastrophic these data centers are, a moratorium locally is worth considering.
Nassau County approves data center moratorium Nassau County commissioners approved a 12-month moratorium Monday night on accepting, reviewing or approving applications tied to data center facilities — giving the county time to study potential impacts before deciding how to handle future projects.

Our Rural Boundary Town Hall originally scheduled for May 15th has been rescheduled.
Due to a medical emergency involving our lead speaker, and to ensure several legislators are back from special session and able to participate, we’ve made the decision to postpone the event to a later date.
🌱 Please still register to stay on the email list and be the first to hear the new date and updates:

This conversation is too important to miss. Together with Defending Rural Florida, Save Rural Seminole, Save Split Oak, and Bear Warriors United, we’ll still be coming together to discuss threats to our rural boundary, review legislation from this past session, and organize to protect our communities for generations to come.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Stay tuned for the rescheduled date.
