Spotlight on Francis Hopkinson, Signer of the Declaration of Independence!
Step into our Money of the 13 Colonies exhibit and admire a rare Pennsylvania 20 shilling note (March 20, 1771) — hand signed by Francis Hopkinson, Founding Father and influential American designer.
Hopkinson not only signed the Declaration of Independence in August 1776, he’s also credited with helping design the American flag and the Great Seal of the United States, whose iconic “all-seeing eye” above the pyramid still appears on the back of the $1 bill today

For we’re spotlighting the Gloyd Home in Gaithersburg.
Built in the Victorian era onto the original Benjamin Gaither house, this unique structure held centuries of stories. If you look closely at the 1946 renovation photo, you can even spot original 1790s log walls exposed on the second floor, along with Gaither’s old fieldstone chimney on the right side.
During the Civil War, as Union and Confederate troops moved through Gaithersburg, the Gloyd Home served as a hospital for the wounded — a quiet witness to the turmoil of the era.
By the late 1950s, commercial growth surrounded the property, and the home was sold to the telephone company. It was ultimately demolished in 1958, but its history remains woven into the story of our community.
