The ACLS for Experienced Providers Course is an alternative ACLS recertification option for seasoned health care providers who are proficient in performing BLS and have mastered ACLS. This includes providers who regularly lead or participate in emergency assessment and treatment of prearrest, arrest or postarrest patients. The primary target audience includes paramedics, emergency nurses and physi
cians, and critical care nurses and intensivists. For successful course completion participants must meet all current ACLS course completion requirements and must be actively engaged in discussion of case-based scenarios. Completion of ACLS testing at the beginning of the course ensures all participants share a common base of knowledge – ACLS concepts and skills. Participants who are unable to pass are unable to advance in the course. ACLS EP Certification is good for two years and supersedes ACLS Provider certification. It is the most advanced certification offered by the American Heart Association. How is this course different than a regular ACLS course? This course is completed within 8 hours, twice the time of our training center's standard ACLS Update course. The standard recertification option verifies a participant understands ACLS concepts and possesses the ability to perform ACLS skills while the ACLS – EP course promotes discussion beyond linear algorithms. Case-based scenarios are facilitated, not instructed, in order to challenge participants, strengthen critical thinking skills and decision making, and provide peer-to-peer learning. Participants must be able to convey personal experiences and knowledge to others in order to facilitate learning. The format of this course is greatly enhanced when participants are multi-disciplinary healthcare providers from diverse institutions. Why take ACLS EP? The ACLS – EP course provides participants with a detailed framework, the ACLS – EP Survey, in which to quickly assess, determine a differential diagnosis, and create a treatment plan in special patient situations. Participants apply this framework in their clinical settings to improve outcomes in complex cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, toxicologic, and other emergencies. This dynamic course offering is likely to improve healthcare providers’ response to deterioration in patients’ conditions and ultimately save lives.
