Here are some important definitions if you’re working up the 2026-2027 Florida All-State etudes!
Grace notes come in many shapes and sizes but how they’re performed is a quasi-science 👩🏼🔬
In the FBA symphonic band (11-12) technical etude the timing of the acciatura is really important, make sure each grace note comes before the beat 🎶
In the FBA concert band (9-10) lyrical etude, however, you’ll see a smattering of both. Because many of them are appogiatura you’ll want to make sure they have enough emphasis to sound like parts of the melody!
These grace notes will technically come on the beat, though at this slow tempo and in context you’ll notice my reference recording is softer on those definitions for the sake of musicality!
