Earlier this year, we shared that Phoenix Institute was entering a new chapter after leaving our home in Gainesville. At that time, we planned to continue CPR training, explore new EMS education opportunities, and keep our mission alive in new ways.

After careful reflection and discussion, we have decided to officially close the following offerings from Phoenix Institute: GA State EMS CEUs, GA State Instructor CEUs, and GA EMS Initial Education programs. While our formal educational offerings have come to an end, you may still see occasional research and advocacy work under the Phoenix name.

Since 2021, Phoenix has been more than an educational organization — it’s been a community. Together, we’ve served thousands of students, expanded access to high-quality and affordable training, and built relationships that will last far beyond the classroom.

While our doors are now closed, the impact we’ve made together will continue through the careers and lives of our students, instructors, and partners.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey — from the students who trusted us with their learning, to the faculty who shared their expertise, to the partners who believed in our mission. Your support made Phoenix what it was.

Though this chapter has ended, the values that defined Phoenix — accessibility, quality, and community — will continue to guide our future work in education and leadership.

We hope you are all having a great 2025!

We wanted to share with you that one of Phoenix’s key leaders (and lead instructor), Roy Atkins, became a patient last week due to a significant stroke. If you have been around Phoenix for any amount of time, you know that Roy would do anything to help the students and the EMS community at home and abroad. While he was able to come home from the hospital over the weekend, he still has a long road of recovery ahead.

We are asking for some help from our community of providers and educators through two ways - one is a GoFundMe to offset the cost of therapies, rehab, etc as that can be fairly costly - https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-roys-path-to-recovery?attribution_id=sl:b1ae2833-d1a5-4067-ba6b-c08d4c0e286e&lang=en_US&utm_campaign=man_sharesheet_dash&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link

Second is a Meal Train - providing some relief for Lisa (another one of our leadership team and Roy’s wife) while she focuses on helping him heal - https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/83wdy8?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR1TPly-zYxds7sUTmPuxmXVhRKlrtyUr-IsnT5omtkJ3Bel45VKbbcME0c_aem_inhb77jVD-RmO1bw8Y9KUg

We know that Roy has the determination to recover, but most of all we ask for your thoughts and prayers be with him during this time of recovery.

He cares about the EMS Community and students everywhere that his first concern was to make sure he could get back to teaching and helping others join the field he has spent over 40 years in

We appreciate all of the help and support!
