Vitamin A is known as an anti-inflammatory micronutrient. It is crucial for forming strong epithelial and mucosal barriers that inhibit pathogens by blocking their ability to enter the body. Vitamin A regulates the number and function of natural killer (NK) cells, macrophages, and neutrophils; particularly, macrophages need vitamin A for phagocytosis.
