Between 4/15/2025 and 11/15/2025, We harvested 80 Strawberry fruits from 4 year old soil, 9 year old soil (right) and 13 year old soil from 2013 (left). 50% of fruits were harvested from plant on right - we have yet to find someone achieved such observations Globally. And that's what is the point - wishing everyone tremendously success and achievements in New Year!

We have been working hard on our Tomato Genetics projects since 2010, so we do have ton of pictures. But this one stands out as poignant picture of Genes - either you have it and saved and, when you don't.... Not much you can do! The data/ picture here is from 2021 and disease in Concern is White Mold, caused by Scleretinia Spp. - a soil borne fungus that kills 400 documented species of plants. So edible crops to humans from wheat, soyabean to Tomato and strawberries - all are affected. We experienced first hand in 2021- it spreads like wild fire in the months of July and August. There's no Resistance genes found in any crop, only moderately resistant or Tolerant plants, as found and shown in this picture/ data. Many universities research has found adding heavy nitrogen fertilizer causes lush green growth, which is like fuel to fire for White Mold disease. We were able to manage this disease as by creating low density of plants,so disease spread is slowed down.
A recent research transferred genes from Barley that create Oxalate Oxidate into Peanut, and found those recipient peanut plants with this enzyme, Tolerant to White Mold disease. This enzyme breaks Oxalate into CO2 and Hydrogen Peroxide. UV light and Hydrogen Peroxide are known to decompose Oxalate into CO2 and Water. So how did susceptible peanut plant to white mold turned into Tolerant to this disease? Hypothesis is Hydrogen Peroxide in plants turns on genes and proteins that hinders formation and growth of fungal hyphea or white moldy growth. Such genes and proteins are yet to be discovered!!
