Hot weather is dangerous for dogs with flat faces, because they're much less able to cool themselves off than dogs with longer noses.

Please please PLEASE be especially careful if you're caring for a , , or . Signs of overheating can be easy to miss before there's a serious problem, so please be cautious.

We want all of our friends to have a safe, happy summer--which often means resting in the shade or staying inside rather than allowing fun in the sun.

We worry so much about flat faced dogs in hot weather because dogs rely on panting to cool off. Short noses with less space for airflow mean their panting is less effective for thermoregulation, and they can overheat easily. When heatstroke happens, it's life threatening or fatal despite emergency care, and we don't want anyone to experience that heartbreak. 💔❤️‍🩹❤️

Dr Arthur's team made the trip to Jarrettsville Vet Center on Wednesday. We're usually there two Wednesdays each month, and we offer orthopedic and soft tissue surgery.
