Did you see the lights? Meadowlark Optics Principal Solutions Engineer Ron Stepanek's partner Sarah Watkins took this shot of the recent aurora here in Colorado. This ionosphere activity is the result of the largest solar magnetic storm in the last 20 years. Meadowlark Optics built the polarization optics used at the DKIST solar telescope in Hawaii used to map solar magnetic fields. These maps are needed to help predict these storms. The storms can wreak havoc on satellites and radio communication and even destroy the electrical transformers used in our electrical grid in more severe storms than this.
