Jason Earle: Executive-Minded with a Shepherd’s Heart

Jason Earle radiates enthusiasm. When he speaks with someone, he gives them his full attention, making them feel like the most important person in the room. That same passion is evident as he steps into his new role as Executive Director of the Frederick Rescue Mission.

The path that led Jason to the Mission has many chapters, but one theme runs through all of them: a calling to lead people, unite teams, and care for individuals.

A Foundation of Faith
Jason grew up in a close-knit Christian community in New Jersey, where he met his future wife in their youth group while in eighth grade. The church played a formative role in his life.
“They were my family,” Jason says.

His love for both ministry and leadership became clear early on. At Bible college, he pursued a double major in business and biblical studies, combining two lifelong passions. Looking back, he describes himself as “executive-minded with a shepherd’s heart.”

Learning to Lead
After college, Jason joined the investment company Vanguard, where he spent 11 years building his leadership skills. During that time, he completed the company’s intensive 18-month leadership development program.

“I love leading teams,” he says. “There’s something powerful about harnessing the collective strengths of a group while caring for each individual team member.” Those years helped shape his leadership philosophy and prepared him for the opportunities God would place before him.

A Call to Ministry
Despite a successful career in the business world, Jason and his wife always sensed that vocational ministry would be part of their future. Over time, Jason felt increasingly restless and began searching for ways to use his leadership gifts in full-time ministry. When he discovered an opening at Damascus Road Community Church in Mount Airy, Maryland, the position immediately resonated with him—even though he had never heard of Mount Airy before.

As he moved through the interview process, Jason sensed God’s leading and accepted the role of Executive Director. Jason and his family left the Philadelphia area and moved to Frederick City. Over the next nine years, he oversaw church staff and ministries, helping turn vision into action. Jason served as part of a three-person senior leadership team that co-led the church and was responsible for helping the church fulfill its mission. Through seasons of both challenge and growth, he found the work deeply rewarding. Once again, God was refining the skills that would prepare him for the next chapter.

An Unexpected Opportunity
In February, Jason learned that Arnold Farlow would be retiring as Executive Director of the Frederick Rescue Mission. At first, the announcement caught his attention only because the Mission was Damascus Road’s longest-standing local ministry partner. Soon afterward, a few friends who knew Jason well shared the Mission’s job description with him.

“This sounds like you,” they told him. Jason wasn’t looking for another position, but he had to admit that the role aligned remarkably well with his experience and passions. “God opened my heart and gave me a vision for the position,” he says. “It was very unexpected. I love the DRCC family and didn’t want to leave, but it seemed like God was leading me toward the Mission.”

Even so, Jason prayed for unmistakable confirmation before taking any steps forward.
The Mission’s search committee—including Arnold Farlow—interviewed numerous candidates. After a thorough process, the committee unanimously agreed that Jason was the strongest candidate. When his name was presented to the Board of Directors, the board also voted unanimously to offer him the position. For Jason, that was the confirmation he had been seeking. He gladly accepted the call to become the Mission’s next Executive Director.
Jason sees this new role as a continuation of a family legacy. Jason’s uncle was the senior pastor at Centennial United Methodist Church on 2nd Street in Frederick for close to 20 years. It was at Centennial where Second Street & Hope was birthed where they fed the homeless and held a worship service for them every Saturday night.

Looking Ahead
As he begins this new chapter, Jason is focused on both continuity and growth.
“Success isn’t just passing the baton to me,” he says. “We have to ensure a healthy transition.”

He understands that many Christian organizations gradually lose sight of their founding purpose. “My commitment to the team is to define, ground, and protect the Mission. Our mission doesn’t change, but our methods do. Whatever we do, we will do it in a way that loves people as Jesus loves them.”

Jason also recognizes the growing needs in Frederick County. “Frederick is the fastest-growing county in Maryland, and the challenges facing our neighbors continue to increase as the cost-of-living rises. We have an incredible opportunity to be a place of help and hope.”

With a heart for ministry, a passion for leadership, and a deep commitment to the Mission’s calling, Jason is eager to lead the Frederick Rescue Mission into its next season of service.
