āļøJust A Few Tipsāļø
There has been a lot of mis-information going around Facebook!
Here's a few tips that I hope helps and hope everyone stays safe from these storms.
These are questions I'm asked very frequently.
- Do Not directly cover your heat pump up!
It needs to breath, if you want to protect it, it needs 2 ft of airspace all the way around. They were meant to be outside!
- The weird noise heat pumps make when compressor turns on and fan shuts off on a heat pump is defrost mode, don't shut the breaker off!
- If you have a gas water heater , yes it will work when power goes out,not a tankless though.
-I repeat, don't lay plywood over your heatpump!
-It is not a good idea to let your vehicle warm up and idle for long periods of time,(more than 10 min, that's why your remote start shuts off at 10 min) the manual will tell you the same.
-Dont let your vehicles idle in your garage for long periods of time either!
-Let your faucets drip, open your cabinet doors under sinks
-There is no right or wrong temperature to put your thermostat on, 65 or 75, it don't matter, stay comfortable.
-Insulate your hose bibs, stores sell cool covers
-Pool salt works great on walk ways! I have been using for years and my concrete still looks new
-Yes aux heat will run longer than normal when its under 40 degrees outside.
- That weird burning smell from the heat strips is usually normal don't panic
- No, your water heater tank (not tankless)does not condensate, nor does your a/c in the winter, if its dripping it needs service.
- Your 90% or above, furnace, does condensate, please Insulate drain so it don't freeze and stop running.
- Don't run generators in your home or garage
-Test your carbon Monoxide alarm, if your not sure if you should get one? GET ONE!
-Dont cover your heat pump!
-Dont burn wood in a fireplace meant only for gas logs.
-Please test your gas logs, heater, emergency equipment, generators, etc,etc at beginning of winter, not day before storm.
-Its not the best idea to use your stove to warm your home, manufacturers say the same
-Boil water to help raise humidity in your home. Don't mess with your heater settings.
Most of all stay safe, stay warm, feel free to reach out if you have questions
