Heat is one of the most underestimated hazards on a construction site.
When temperatures on a job site approach 100°F, the risk to our crews can change by the hour.
Elevated tank construction doesn't stop for summer. Our teams work through some of the most extreme conditions and managing that safely requires more than just water coolers on site.
Here is how Landmark approaches hot weather safety:
▪️ Adjusted work schedules. work schedules are shifted to early morning or overnight hours when conditions allow.
▪️ Hydration and rest cycles. Crews schedule work-rest intervals based on heat index, not just temperature. Supervisors monitor conditions throughout the day.
▪️ Heat illness training. Every field team member is trained to recognize the early signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, in themselves and in their coworkers.
▪️ Task planning around exposure. High-exertion tasks are scheduled during cooler hours. When possible, work is performed at grade rather than at elevation, reducing radiant heat exposure.
Summer doesn't pause construction timelines, but it demands a different level of planning to keep people safe while delivering on schedule.
A new record – largest foundation in our history!
2,100+ cubic yards of concrete in 2 overnight foundation placements of the 3.0 MG Composite Elevated Tank (CET) in Wapakoneta, Ohio.
▪️ Nearly one-half million pounds of reinforcement
▪️ 200 loads of concrete delivered by 20+ trucks from 2 batch plants
▪️ Placement rate over 140 cy per hour throughout both nights
▪️ A 48-meter pump truck and a telebelt truck running simultaneously
A foundation pour at this scale requires weeks of planning, precise coordination, and a crew that knows how to execute when it counts. Landmark would like to thank our partners including SpringCreek Corp (COLAS company), Wenning Concrete Pumping, and Bowser-Morner, Inc. This team delivered!!

The Grand Prairie Robinson Road Elevated Storage Tank has won a Dallas Section Award from the Illuminating Engineering Society - and it's now headed to national judging.
The logo lighting design, led by Freese and Nichols, brought a level of artistry to this project that caught the attention of judges and the community alike.
Congratulations to the full project team, and fingers crossed for the next round!
