Thomas May gives you an in-depth preview and a wonderful interview with Concert Theatre Works' Bill Barclay!

“Nearly three centuries after it was first performed, Seattle audiences have the rare chance to encounter a creative reconstruction of one of the lost Passions. On July 13 at Town Hall Seattle, Early Music Seattle presents a new production of Bach's setting drawn from St. Mark's account — known in English as the 'St. Mark Passion' and in German as the 'Markus Passion.' The performance includes narration by the distinguished Shakespearean actor Joseph Marcell, best known for his portrayal of Geoffrey the butler in the 1990s television series 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.'”

Thrilled to see our opening as one of The Seattle Times' 7 Classical Arts Picks for Fall 2024! https://bit.ly/3MzNrt4

“Early Music Seattle inaugurates its new series of Beyond Baroque festivals as part of a major rebranding initiative. The October festival is anchored around three concerts, beginning with a program by the Catalan-born viola da gamba virtuoso and visionary Jordi Savall and his Hespèrion XXI ensemble exploring the music of Monteverdi and his contemporaries (Oct. 10). The second concert features Carlos Nunez, the world's leading player of the gaita (the bagpipes of his native Galicia), who will blend music of the Celtic nations in his remarkable arrangements (Oct. 12). Originally from Seattle, acclaimed violinist Rachell Ellen Wong returns with Twelfth Night, the New York-based early music group she co-founded with David Belkovski, to perform "The English Orpheus," a program exploring the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque in England (Oct. 13).” —Thomas May, The Seattle Times
