A dispute over a noisy go-kart ended with a Lake County man facing felony charges.
Authorities say 57-year-old Richard “Rick” Carter was arrested after allegedly confronting two teenagers who were working on a go-kart in a neighbor’s garage. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Carter became upset over the engine noise and walked onto the property armed with knives.
Investigators say the teens were revving the engine while tuning the go-kart’s carburetor at approximately 7:30 p.m. when Carter allegedly threw a lawn chair, picked up a large kitchen knife and a cleaver-style knife, and made threats toward them. One of the teens later told deputies he feared for his life and immediately left the area.
Deputies arrested Carter on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. According to the arrest report, Carter admitted he grabbed the knives because they were “convenient items” while he was angry about the ongoing noise.

A Fort Myers man is suing multiple Florida law enforcement agencies after he says flawed AI facial-recognition technology led to his wrongful arrest in a child-luring investigation more than 300 miles from his home.
Authorities allegedly used surveillance images from a Jacksonville Beach McDonald’s and an AI facial-recognition system that reported a 93% match to the man.
The man told officials he had never been to Jacksonville Beach, and his lawsuit alleges investigators relied on the AI match while overlooking evidence that could have cleared him. The charges were later dropped, and he is now seeking accountability over the use of the technology.
