The Board of Larimer County Commissioners today proclaimed the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Larimer County.

First proposed by the United Nations in 1977, National Indigenous Peoples’ Day has been adopted by several Colorado local governments.

Larimer County Commissioner Kristen Stephens: “It’s crucial we remember our history. We need to remember the good as well as the bad in our history and the way native peoples were treated. These proclamations are a call for us to do better.”

Larimer County encourages businesses, organizations, and public institutions to recognize and cultivate strong relationships and celebrate Native and Indigenous Peoples.
